Topic: Mark 11:22-23
"Have faith in God," Jesus answered. "I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him" (Mark 11:22-23).
I spent Christmas in a tiny village in the High Arctic on the edge of the Arctic Ocean. This time of year there is total darkness in that part of the world. Flying over the vast whiteness with my pilot husband, John, I caught glimpses in the moonlight of the huge icebergs that dotted the ocean surface below.
Joy, a seasoned hunter and northern chef, told me about a village she had worked at. An iceberg had drifted aground and sat on the shore of the village for three years. In summer months in the midnight sun it cast its huge shadow over the buildings nearby. In the winter this mountain of ice loomed in the darkness. The snow and rain and wind pelted it and whipped it. Then one day the great strength of the tide picked it up and it simply floated away.
I thought of that story today when I read this promise from God's Word, the Bible.
"Have faith in God," Jesus answered. "I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him " (Mark 11:22-23).
We all have mountains in our lives from time to time. Just like there are mountains of rock and mountains of ice, our mountains consist of different things too. Sometimes our faith activates God's power and our mountain is removed immediately. But other times it is like the iceberg...seeming to cast a shadow on our lives for too long and we fear it may never go. God asks us to do our part by having faith, believing in God's power. He will do the casting into the sea in His time. He is the mountain mover and as we ask Him for a tenacity of faith to believe, He will work! Trust His timing. Trust His power!
~Heavenly Father, the mountain in my life looms large today. It feels like that mountain of ice that seems it will never leave. Father, today give me a tenacity of faith to believe You can move it. Give me a confidence in Your power to work in Your time. I declare my faith in You and I thank you for Your faithfulness to hold me as I wait on You. Thank you that I can trust You with this. Bring Your peace to my anxious heart today! In Jesus' strong name I pray, Amen.
Is there a mountain looming over your life? In faith, ask God to move it in His time. Watch for Him to be at work.
