"For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end." Psalm 48:14
My sixteen - year-old son and I were going to Switzerland on a much needed vacation.
We consulted a travel agent, secured maps, and bought a Swiss travel pass. Getting around in a foreign country was exciting, but, at times, it was also scary.
For instance, late one afternoon we couldn't find a place to sleep in the whole city of Basel! Due to a world conference every place was taken. Storm clouds were gathering in a blackening sky. Then a gusty wind buffeted the train station, followed by a drenching downpour. It was getting dark and we wondered what to do next. As good as our travel agent was, she hadn't foreseen this emergency. Eventually we did find a place to sleep and all turned out well in the end.
Compare this to a recent trip to Senegal, a country in western Africa, much further away, with fewer resources, and a language I do not speak. Getting around in this country would have been a frightening experience, indeed, except for a very big difference. My daughter and her family live there! Knowing the language and the country well, they were my tour guides. Whatever emergency arose, they knew how to handle it.
In the journey of life, God has given us both a travel agent and a tour guide. The Bible is our map book and we need to study it well to learn what paths to follow.
But God has also given us a tour guide in Jesus Christ. He is with us on the journey. He knows the way. No matter what emergency arises, He knows what to do. Trust him.
How do you decide what paths to follow? In what way do you use the Bible as your guide?
