THE HEAVENS DECLARE GOD'S GLORY
Mood:  amorous
Topic: Psalm 19:2 - 6
"The heavens are telling the glory of God; they are a marvelous display of His craftmanship" (Psalm 19:1).

When King David was a small lad, his father assigned him the care of the sheep. Day after day, night after night he cared for his sheep as a loving shepherd. No doubt on numerous occasions he would lie on his back and look up at the sun and the vastness of space, during the daytime. At night, the stars and the moon would seem so close that he could almost reach them, as he would talk to the God of his fathers.

The vast expanse of creation captivated him, and instinctively he knew that God, who created it all, was his God and he could trust Him with his life, so that just before he went against the giant Goliath he could say to King Saul, "When I am taking care of my father's sheep and a lion or a bear comes and grabs a lamb from the flock, I go after it with a club...I've done it to this heathen Philistine too, for he has defied the armies of the living God. The Lord who saved me from the claws and teeth of the lion and the bear will save me from this Philistine" (1 Samuel 17:34 - 37). When David went out against Goliath, he said to the giant, "You come to me with a sword and a spear, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of the armies of heaven and of Israel" (1 Samuel 17:45). Then with a sling and a stone, he killed the Philistine.

I personally believe David triumphed because his confidence in God came not only from the teachings of the holy Scriptures, but also from the experience that he had had with God, who created all the heavens and the earth.

I will make a special point to study the vastness of God's creation through books about science and to take time - not only in Scriptures, but also in books of science - to notice the handiwork of God's beautiful creation, conscious that it will help me to become more sensitive and alert to the needs of others.

HE HEARS OUR CRIES
Mood:  amorous
Topic: Psalm 10:12-16
"Lord, You know the hopes of humble people. Surely, You will hear their cries and comfort their hearts by helping them" (Psalm 10:17).

Some time ago Nancy DeMoss, who with her beloved husband, Art (one of my dearest friends), had launched a fruitful ministry to executives, called to share an exciting experience. It had been raining all day, and a downpour was predicted for that evening. More than 1300 guests were coming to their home for a lawn dinner to hear the gospel presented by the well - known Christian leader, Charles Colson.

They prayed that the rain would stop, and - miracle of miracles - except for only a few drops of moisture, the rain was held back, though around them, they later learned, there had been a downpour. The gospel had been presented and hundreds had responded to the invitation to receive Christ, and as the guests were on their way home, the rain came - but the harvest was over. The God of nature had heard their prayers and responded.

On another occasion, during EXPLO '74 in Seoul, Korea, as over a million people came each of five evenings to the famous Yoida Plaza, we prayed God would hold back the rain - but He chose to bless us in other ways, and the rain came. As it fell, God overruled and the people were drawn closer to each other and to the Lord.

Literally hundreds of thousands claimed to have received Christ during the week. In fact, more than a million - according to the officials - indicated that they had received Christ in just one evening. As a result, we gladly praised and thanked God for the rain.

God always knows what is best. He knows the hopes of humble people, and He will hear our cries and comfort our hearts. Sometimes He withholds the rain; other times He sends the rain and with it the outpouring of His blessings.

Knowing that God is worthy of my trust, that He controls not only the affairs of men and nations but also the laws of nature, I will submit my requests to Him today and be willing to abide by His decisions, knowing also that He makes no mistakes. I shall rejoice and give thanks to Him no matter what happens.

REFUGE FOR THE OPPRESSED
Mood:  amorous
Topic: Psalm 9:10 - 14

"All who are oppressed may come to Him. He is a refuge for them in their time of trouble" (Psalm 9:9).

The late evangelist Henry Moorehouse once faced a disturbing dilemma. His little paralyzed daughter greeted him as he entered the house bearing a package for his wife.

"Where is Mother?" he asked, after kissing and embracing his daughter.

"Mother is upstairs," the girl responded.

"Well," Moorehouse said, "I have a package for her."

"Oh," the girl pleaded, "let me carry the package to Mother."

"Why, Minnie dear," her father replied, "how can you carry the package? You can't carry yourself."

With a smile, the girl continued, "That is true, Papa. But you can give me the package, and I will carry the package - and you will carry me."

Taking her up in his arms, Moorehouse carried his daughter upstairs - little Minnie and the package, too. Then he saw his own position before the Lord; he had been carrying a heavy burden in recent days, but was not God carrying Him?

In similar fashion, you and I often feel the weight of heavy burdens - sometimes forgetting that even as we carry them we are being carried by our heavenly Father, who is a "refuge for them in their time of trouble."

As I carry my burdens today - large or small - I will recognize that my heavenly Father is carrying me, and I will pass this wonderful truth on to others who are weighted down with the loads and cares of daily living.

Franklin Graham speaks about that most serious of sins, murder:
Mood:  amorous
The Bible says, “Thou shalt not [murder].” Taking somebody’s life is a sin. Now, there’re some of you, you may be guilty of this sin. If you’re guilty, my friends, I want you to know that God will forgive you. That’s right. You’re saying, “Franklin, even though I have blood on my hands, you mean God can forgive me?” I’m telling you that He will forgive you, and He’ll set you free from the guilt that you’ve been carrying all these many years. He’ll set you free. You come to Jesus Christ.

Even if you’ve killed someone, you will be forgiven when you come to Jesus Christ by faith. To find out what it means to have a relationship with Jesus Christ, call us toll-free at 1-866-JESUS-CARES or visit billygraham.org.

CHILDREN OF GOD
Mood:  amorous
Topic: John 1:6 - 11
"But to all who received Him, He gave the right to become children of God. All they needed to do was to trust Him to save them" (John 1:12).

My wife, Vonette, had been active in the church since she was a little girl, and I assumed that she was a Christian. However, after my proposal and during our engagement, I realized she had never received Christ, though she was a very moral, religious person.

Because of the emotional involvement, I hesitated to press her to receive Christ because I was afraid she would go through the motions of receiving Him to please me, which certainly would not be pleasing to our Lord. So I asked the Lord to send someone who could introduce her to Christ. He clearly led me to call upon a dear friend, the late Dr. Henrietta Mears, who had played such a vital role in my own spiritual growth.

One day at Forest Home, a Christian conference center in California, Dr. Mears took time to talk with Vonette. "Receiving Christ," she explained, "is simply a matter of turning your life - your will, your emotions, your intellect - completely over to Him." With that, the great transaction took place and Vonette became a new creature in Christ.

Similarly, in India, a convert from Hinduism could neither read nor write, so he asked others to read the Bible to him. His favorite verse was John 1:12.

"I have received Him," he said, "so I have become a son of God."

Radiantly happy, he returned to his village.

"I have become a son of God,"he proclaimed. And his life was so transformed and his simple witness so effective that the other villagers all wanted to become "sons of God," too.

That radiant convert led the whole village to Christ - and hundreds of others besides. A poor, illiterate, former Hindu, he realized that he had indeed become a son of God and he longed for others to become sons as well.

I will make certain first of all that I have truly received Jesus Christ as my Savior and Lord by faith - with the intellect, the emotions, the will. Then I will seek to be God's instrument in helping to introduce others to Him as well.

HE MAINTAINS THE SEASONS
Mood:  amorous
Topic: Genesis 8:15 - 21
"As long as the earth remains there will be springtime and harvest, cold and heat, winter and summer, day and night" (Genesis 8:22).

On his way to a country church one Sunday morning, a preacher was overtaken by one of his deacons.

"What a bitterly cold morning," the deacon remarked. "I am sorry the weather is so wintry."

Smiling, the minister replied, "I was just thanking God for keeping His Word."

"What do you mean?" the man asked with a puzzled look on his face.

"Well," the preacher said, "more than 3,000 years ago God promised that cold and heat should not cease, so I am strengthened by this weather which emphasizes the sureness of His promises."

It is most reassuring to realize that we serve a God who keeps His promises, for He is the same God who makes possible the supernatural life for the believer. Part of that supernatural life is the ability to accept our lot in life, to be able to say with the psalmist:

"This is the day the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it" (Psalm 118:24, KJV).

"Springtime and harvest" reminds us that as we sow the seed of the Word of God, He is faithful to give the increase - in His own good time. He simply asks and expects that we be faithful in our part, which is to give out His Word - to plant - at every possible opportunity.

The Christian who lives the supernatural life is enabled by the Holy Spirit to rejoice under all circumstances and to interpret every problem, adversity, heartache and sorrow in a positive light.

I will give thanks to the Lord for His faithfulness, no matter what the circumstances. I will faithfully plant the Word of God today whenever and wherever possible, realizing that our faithful God will produce the promised harvest

UNDERNEATH: EVERLASTING ARMS
Mood:  amorous
Topic: Psalm 91:1 - 7
"The eternal God is your Refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms. He thrusts out your enemies before you..." (Deuteronomy 33-27, LB)."...with us is the Lord our God to help us, and to fight our battles" (2 Chronicles 32:8, KJV).

Susan was broken - hearted. She had just lost her first child at birth. The trauma of that experience had affected her relationship with her husband and with everyone else around her. She had become cynical and moody. She blamed God for what had happened and said, "I hate Him. Why would this happen to me? Where was God when I was going through the birth pangs, the excruciating pain of giving birth to a stillborn child? Why didn't He give me a healthy baby?"

I was reminded of a statement that I had heard in response to a similar anguished plea: "Where was God when I lost my son?"

The answer: "Where He was when His own Son died on the cross for our sins."

We do not understand the mystery of why God allows tragedy, heartache and sorrow, but we do know that those who trust the eternal God as their refuge will experience the reality of His promise that "underneath are the everlasting arms."

Sometime later I talked with a godly Christian leader whose son had just taken his own life. Of course this man and his wife were devastated. Their hearts were broken. But what a difference in their reaction. Even through his tears this great Christian was saying, "I know I can trust God. He is a loving God. He is my refuge, and I feel His strength and compassion and care for me and my loved ones. My wife and I and all of our family are rededicating ourselves to Him as an expression of our love and confidence in His trustworthiness."

As an expression of my confidence in God and His love and faithfulness I will make a special effort to visualize those everlasting arms of love spread out beneath me, ready for any fall I may take, like a giant net below a trapeze artist. That will give me courage in the face of every obstacle and assurance despite my weaknesses.

NEVER MOCK GOD
Mood:  amorous

I wonder if all of these are true??? This is sooooooooo SAD about Marilyn Monroe. I was hoping for better from her.

A

It is written in the Bible (Galatians 6:7): "Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. Here are some men and women who mocked God:

JOHN LENNON:
Some years before, during his interview with an American Magazine, he said: "Christianity will end, it will disappear. I do not have to argue about that. I am certain. Jesus was ok, but his subjects were too simple.  Today we are more famous than Him" (1966). Lennon, after saying that the Beatles were more famous than Jesus Christ, was shot six times.

TANCREDO NEVES (President of Brazil):
During the Presidential campaign, he said if he got 500,000 votes from his party, not even God would remove him from Presidency. Sure he got the votes, but he got sick a day before being made President, then he died.

CAZUZA (Bi-sexual Brazilian composer, singer and poet):
During a show in Canecoo ( Rio de Janeiro ), whilst smoking his cigarette, he puffed out some smoke into the air and said: "God, that's for you." He died at the age of 32 of AIDS in a horrible manner.

THE MAN WHO BUILT TITANIC:
After the construction of Titanic, a reporter asked him how safe the Titanic would be. With an ironic tone he said: "Not even God can sink it."  The result: I think you all know what happened to the Titanic.

MARILYN MONROE:
She was visited by Billy Graham during a presentation of a show. He said the Spirit of God had sent him to preach to her. After hearing what the Preacher had to say, she said: "I don't need your Jesus". A week later, she was found dead in her apartment.

BON SCOTT:
The ex-vocalist of the AC/DC. On one of his 1979 songs he sang:
"Don't stop me, I'm going down all the way, down the highway to hell". On the 19th of February 1980, Bon Scott was found dead, he had been choked by his own vomit.

CAMPINAS/SP IN 2005:
In Campinas, Brazil a group of friends, drunk, went to pick up another friend. The mother accompanied her to the car and was so worried about the drunkenness of her friends and she said to the daughter - holding her hand, who was already seated in the car: "MY DAUGHTER, GO WITH GOD AND MAY HE PROTECT YOU."  She responded: "ONLY IF HE (GOD) TRAVELS IN THE TRUNK, CAUSE INSIDE HERE IT'S ALREADY FULL."  Hours later, news came that they had been involved in a fatal accident, everyone had died, the car could not be recognized what type of car it had been, but surprisingly, the trunk was intact. The police said there was no way the trunk could have remained intact. To their surprise, inside the trunk was a crate of eggs, none were broken.

Many more important people have forgotten that there is no other name that was given so much authority as the name of Jesus. Many have died, but only Jesus died and rose again, and He is still alive. JESUS!!!

Jesus said "If you are embarrassed about me, I will also be embarrassed about you before my father."  What benefit does it have, if a man gains the whole world but loses his soul? What can man give in exchange of his soul? (Mathew 16:26).

YOUR SOURCE OF STRENGTH
Mood:  amorous
Topic: Psalm 16:6 - 11
"......the joy of the Lord is your strength" (Nehemiah 8:10b, KJV).

At a London train station one day, a woman was stopped by an elderly man.

"Excuse me, ma'am," he said, "but I want to thank you for something."

"Thank me!" the woman exclaimed.

"Yes'm, I used to be the ticket collector, and whenever you went by you always gave me a cheerful smile and a 'good mornin'." You don't know what a difference it made to me.

"Wet weather or dry, it was always the same, and I thought to myself, "Wonder where she gets her smile from; one can't always be happy, yet she seems to.' I knew that smile must come from inside somehow."

"Then one morning you came by and you had a little Bible in your hand. I said to myself, 'Perhaps that's where she gets her smile from.' So on my way home that night I bought a Bible, and I've been reading it, and I've found Christ. Now I can smile, too, and I want to thank you."

As you and I seek to be God's witnesses today, in dependence on the supernatural power of the indwelling Holy Spirit, we should be mindful constantly of the fact that the joy of the Lord can indeed be our strength. That joy inevitably will shine on our faces, regardless of circumstances.

In the words of an anonymous poem:

"If you live close to God

And His infinite grace,

You don't have to tell;

It shows on your face
."

I will make a conscious effort to reflect the joy of my indwelling Lord in such a way that it will glow on my very countenance. While it is true that joy is a fruit of the Spirit, it is also true that the reflection of that joy is my responsibility. But I will go a step further. I will tell everyone who will listen about the one who is the source of my joy.

USING OUR ABILITIES
Mood:  amorous
Topic: Ephesians 4:11 - 16
"Why is it that He gives us these special abilities to do certain things best? It is that God's people will be equipped to do better work for Him, building up the church, the body of Christ, to a position of strength and maturity; until finally we all believe alike about our salvation and about our Savior, God's Son, and all become full - grown in the Lord - yes, to the point of being filled full with Christ" (Ephesians 4:12,13).

We would be poor stewards if we ignored the special abilities the Holy Spirit has given to us.

We must use our abilities to glorify Christ, not to glorify ourselves, or some other person, or even to glorify the gift itself.

Peter says, "Are you called to preach? Then preach as though God Himself were speaking through you" (1 Peter 4:11). Do you possess musical ability? Share it with the rest of Christ's family. Peter goes on, "Are you called to help others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies, so that God will be glorified through Jesus Christ - to Him be glory and praise forever and ever."

We have the obligation to use our God-given abilities in a scriptural manner to help equip others for Christian service. The apostle Paul writes that spiritual gifts are given "for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ" (Ephesians 4:12, NAS).

In order to live supernaturally, it is important for us always to exercise our abilities in the power and control of the Holy Spirit - never through our own fleshly efforts.

My motivation for using my spiritual gift(s) and abilities will be solely to glorify Christ through helping to equip other members of His body to be more effective and fruitful for Him.

THE LIE OF EASY DIVORCE
Mood:  amorous
For those who consider divorce to be an easy answer to marriage problems - there is an increasing amount of evidence to the contrary.  First of all, the damage done by divorce is devastating. Research has proven that the damage of divorce on children not only lasts for a lifetime, but is also transferred to their children.  Adults tell me that going through a divorce is worse than death.  Businesses experience up to two years in lost productivity from employees going through a divorce.

Also, more recent research proves that the vast majority of people who divorce are no happier than unhappy couples who stay married. The reason for this is because when divorce occurs - you simply exchange one set of problems for new ones.

Another fascinating discovery is that among unhappy couples who stayed married five years - later almost eighty percent rated their marriages as happy.  The greatest turnaround was reported by couples who were the unhappiest five years earlier.

No fault divorce came to us with the promise that it would make divorce less common and less painful.  What a lie!  Divorce has become an epidemic and it is still devastating. The legal conveniences of no fault divorce can in no way counteract the serious emotional consequences on adults and children.

Every marriage goes through difficult times.  In fact, the greatest marriages I've ever seen are those that have gone through very difficult times and have lasted through them.  This is certainly true for Karen and me.  We have now been married for thirty-three years and have a great marriage.  On the way here, we've had some very tough times and were on the brink of divorce almost thirty years ago.  The choice to stay together has paid huge dividends.

If you want to have a happy life and marriage - lose the word divorce and don't believe the lie that it brings happiness.  In most cases, divorce is the answer to marriage problems in the same way that cutting your arm off is the answer to a broken bone.

Our society is reeling under the effects of broken homes and broken hearts.  Many today are fearful of getting married because of all the pain they see.  The truth is - marriage works when you enter into it with a firm commitment.  The vows we say during our wedding ceremonies are designed for this purpose.  When we say, "For better or worse, richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, til death do us part...", we are making an essential commitment that lays a firm foundation for a successful marriage.

These vows worked for many years in our country until the lie of easy divorce took hold.  Since then, it has been a trail of tears.  Spare yourself the heartache.  Tough it out...and when the devil tells you the lie about easy divorce - don't believe it.

Blessings,

Jimmy Evans

HOW TO ASSURE SUCCESS
Mood:  amorous
Topic: Joshua 1:5 - 9
"Early the next morning the army of Judah went out into the wilderness of Tekoa. On the way, Jehoshaphat stopped and called them to attention. 'Listen to me, O people of Judah and Jerusalem,'he said. 'Believe in the Lord your God, and you shall have success! Believe His prophets, and everything will be all right!"' (2 Chronicles 20:20).

God does the same things for us in our time that He did so often in the Old and New Testament accounts of His power and grace.

I remember an eventful week at the University of California in Berkeley in 1966 when the president of the university was fired by the board of regents during the turbulent days of student revolution. Campuses throughout California erupted in anger and violence.

On the Berkeley campus, however, about 600 Campus Crusade staff members and students had gathered from across America to present the claims of Jesus Christ to more than 27,000 students. During the week, through some 80 meetings in dormitories, fraternity and sorority houses, international groups, at athletic banquets and faculty breakfasts and luncheons, in personal appointments and finally at a great meeting of some 8,000 gathered in the Greek theater, almost every student had an opportunity to hear the good news of God's love through Christ. Literally thousands responded.

When the camera crews from the local television stations rushed out to film the predicted violence, they were amazed to find that the Berkeley campus, fountainhead of the radical student revolution, was remarkably quiet. Music, singing and sharing the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ prevailed. Many point to that week as a turning point in the direction of a world - famous university.

Light is more powerful than darkness. Believing God and obeying His commands assure eternal dividends.

Today I resolve to believe God and do those things He directs me to do, regardless of the consequences. Then I am assured of success as, by faith, I live the supernatural life in the power of the Holy Spirit.

THE FIRST MISSIONARY
Mood:  amorous
“Then [Jesus] said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.’” Matthew 9:37-38, NIV

“Jesus Himself was the first missionary. He did not sit by passively and let those who happened to be interested in His teaching come to Him. He went out where the sick, the sorrowing and the sad were, and expounded His message of joy, healing and salvation. Even at a tender age, He went to the Temple and ‘taught’ the doctors and lawyers who were entrenched in the old traditions. He found his way to the seaside and intruded upon the life of the commonest of laborers, saying, ‘Follow me … and I will make you fishers of men’ (Matthew 4:19, NIV). Wherever He went He challenged, uprooted and changed men. And at length they nailed Him to a cross because He had upset their selfish, secure, smug way of life. Not only was Jesus a missionary, but He pledged His followers to be missionaries, too!”

“Christ's first missionary command was not, ‘Go ye into all the world,’(Mark 16:15, KJV) but, ‘Pray the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest’ (Cf. Matthew 9:38). Peter received his missionary vision when he went up on the housetop to pray (Acts 10:9-17). Paul and Barnabas were sent out after a time of prayer and fasting in the church at Antioch (Acts 13:1-3). We tend to challenge potential missionary recruits, whereas the Early Church channeled faithful workers. We tend to persuade people to go, whereas the New Testament church prayed them out. We sometimes forget that the Holy Spirit is also the Missionary Spirit. It is the Holy Spirit who carries out the Great Commission in and through us. The demands of missions in this age and beyond are too great for missionaries who are not called by God and energized by the Holy Spirit. Prayer is not just for the work of missions; it also is the work of missions!” (David J. Hesselgrave).

Prayer
Lord, You have called us to tell the world about Christ. Please show us what we can do fulfill this mission, whether it is through praying, giving our time and resources or going out as workers. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit so that we will always be equipped to accomplish Your will. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Billy Graham, speaking about the true nature of human beings:
Mood:  amorous
Human nature has not changed. "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?" said Jeremiah the prophet. Despite all of our advances in technology, people's hearts remain the same. The simple fact is that mankind has an evil heart—all of us. And if we do not turn to God by repentance and faith, we die and are separated from God forever. We're lost.

The only way to really change is to come to God through faith in Jesus Christ. . To find out what it means to have a relationship with Jesus Christ, call us toll-free at 1-866-JESUS-CARES or visit billygraham.org.

SPIRITUALLY ALIVE
Mood:  amorous
In these days of growing awareness in the spiritual and the supernatural, God gives us guidance as to what to watch for. He tells us how to grow in our spiritual life without confusion.  2 Peter 3:18 spells it out for us...

"Grow in the grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ."

To grow in grace means to think and act with the force of God's love behind all you do. It is having God's influence upon your heart in such a way that it makes a difference in how you live.  God's acceptance of you can influence your heart and be reflected in your life as you walk in confidence knowing He has chosen you and forgiven you.

True spirituality moves you toward knowledge of Jesus as the Influencer of your heart. IT GOES BEYOND A MERE KNOWLEDGE OF RELIGIOUS FACTS! It goes beyond the clutter of spiritual interest that has its focus outside of Jesus. It is allowing His influence on your heart to reflect change in the way you handle yourself. It is the power of His Spirit at work in you.

Growing...moving forward from one place to another as you reflect on Jesus and His influence in your life.  Allow His truth to penetrate your heart and help you to turn from the choices that exclude Him and to accept His forgiveness.

Allow Jesus to influence your heart and your choices. Determine if any particular activity or information is increasing your knowledge of Jesus and causing you to grow in understanding how He can influence your heart and your life. Anything less is a cheap counterfeit of truth.

~Father God,

There is so much out there today on spirituality. Please help me to grow in my knowledge of Jesus and His strength for my life.  Help me to grow in allowing Your influence upon my heart in such a way that it changes how I live. Help me to be discerning and wise as I grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ, my Lord and my Savoir.  In Jesus' name I pray, amen.

THE GRACE TO OVERCOME
Mood:  happy
Topic: 2 Corinthians 12:7 - 10
The Lord declares that His grace is sufficient for every painful situation we will ever encounter. Because of His abundant goodness, kindness, and love for us, we do not have to succumb to discouragement, give up hope, or walk away from His plan.We will know God's grace is working in us when . . .

We have the strength to persevere. Through the indwelling Holy Spirit, God releases into us His supernatural power so we might endure. (Acts 1:8)

A spirit of confidence in Him is ignited within us. Grace awakens our hearts and minds to believe God will turn our troubles into something beneficial. (Romans 8:28)

We have a sense of His presence with us. When grace is at work,we will be conscious of the Spirit's abiding support.

Our focus shifts from our trials to God. Grace helps us shift our attention from our situation and emotions to God's sufficiency.

We trust that God will bring us through this--and not just barely through, but with deeper intimacy and greater faith at the end.

We are assured of God's sovereignty. He knows our frailties and has promised to limit trials to what our weaknesses, strengthened by His power, can bear. (1 Corinthians 10:13)

The apostle Paul had been through shipwrecks, imprisonments, and beatings--difficulties far worse than most of ours. He didn't quit because he drew on God's grace and found it sufficient for every circumstance. Where do you need an infusion of grace in order not to give up and walk away?

OUR FORGIVING FATHER
Mood:  amorous
Topic: Luke 15:11 - 4
Perhaps you've never noticed a few telling nuances in the parable of the prodigal son.

The wayward son had a true change of heart and decided that being a hired servant for his father was better than living in the hogpen of sin. When the wayward son was approaching, the father could see him from afar. The father ran, embraced him, and kissed him.

Here is a son badly stained from sin. He had just left the filthy job of feeding swine, one of the worst possible assignments for a Jewish lad. He had no change of clothes, nowhere to bathe. But the father saw him coming and ran to him. In the culture of Jesus' day, it was beneath the dignity of Jewish men to be seen running in public. But in Jesus' parable, He indicates that this is just how our heavenly Father responds when believers return from their trysts with sin.

He embraced his son despite his filth and stench. He kissed the boy, which was a sign of forgiveness.

Notice what is missing at this point. The father's silence is deafening. While the son begins asking forgiveness and apologizing, the father is hugging and kissing him affectionately. There is no condemnation from the father, who had forgiven the son long ago and was patiently waiting, arms open wide, for his loved one's return. So, too, does our heavenly Father await with forgiveness and love all who stray from Him.

THE GRACE TO KEEP GOING
Mood:  energetic
Topic: Romans 16:1 - 20
I can't take it." "I give up." "I quit." These are powerful words which, when we act on them, deeply impact others' lives as well as our own. Let's look at three key reasons which cause us to express these sentiments.

Satan and his fallen angels' influence is one reason that we walk away from the Lord's plan. Through their involvement in our goings - on, we can be tempted to stop waiting on God for solutions and instead seek a way out now. Running ahead of God is the same as declaring that His promises do not hold true. This is something the Devil wants. Discouragement is another of his tactics - he tries to redirect our focus away from hope in Jesus Christ and onto our negative emotions. His aim is to make us feel helpless and hopeless. His strategy also includes getting believers to copy the methods of the unbelieving world and ignore any future consequences of quitting.

A second reason we stop following God's plan is the influence of our culture. Ungodly people are always ready to give believers advice. We need divine wisdom to set ourselves apart from their thinking and yet stay close enough to be able to share God's viewpoint and message of hope with them.

Our own "natural self" - also known as "the flesh" - is the third reason we might want to bypass God's way. Sacrifice isn't comfortable; our natural tendency is to do what feels good and benefits us or those we love.

God declares that His grace is sufficient to keep us going through every situation. That means we need never give up. How does this apply to your life today?

THE RICHES OF GOD'S GRACE
Mood:  hug me
Topic: Ephesians 1:11 - 14
God's grace makes us extremely wealthy people. No amount of earthly riches can compare. At salvation God . . .

Freed us from sin's power. Although the "flesh" remains, it no longer rules over us. As new creations indwelt by God's Spirit, we have His power to resist temptation and to obey.

United us with our Savior. From the moment we believe, we live in Christ and He lives in us. The Spirit seals us in Him.

Made us part of God's family. God has become our heavenly Father, and we are His adopted sons and daughters. Our spiritual family extends all over the world.

Translated us into the kingdom of light. The kingdom of darkness, which includes this world and all its unsaved inhabitants, is under Satan's rule. (Acts 26:18) When someone receives Jesus Christ as Savior, his or her "home address" is changed to the kingdom of light. (Colossians 1:12 - 13) From then on, that person is a citizen of heaven, who is called to serve as Jesus' ambassador to the unsaved.(2 Corinthians 5:20)

Gave us an eternal inheritance. The precious promises of Scripture are one part of our birthright. More awaits us in heaven, where it cannot fade away or be defiled. (1 Peter 1:4)

Started the sanctification process. To sanctify means "to set apart for God's use" and "to make holy." With our cooperation, the Spirit works to transform us into Jesus' likeness.

When life is pressing you down, ponder the riches of divine grace. Discouragement will lift, and spiritual joy will take over.

TRUE RICHES
Mood:  hug me
Topic: Ephesians 1:1 - 8
Jesus willingly left behind His divinity and for our sake took on the limitations of the human form. Second Corinthians 8:9 tells us that He became poor in order that we might have the riches of grace. As a result, we are:

Chosen. God made us part of His plan from the beginning. (Ephesians 1:5) He chose us to belong to Him even though we did not deserve it.

Redeemed. Jesus paid the price to buy us from the marketplace of sin so that we might no longer be held in its bondage. Our redemption price was His death. (1 Peter 1:18 - 19)

Justified. We are all guilty of disobedience against God. However, upon our trusting in Jesus as our personal Savior, God declares that we are justified, and He treats us as not guilty. (Romans 3:23, 28)

Reconciled. Because of our sin, we were at odds with God. Through Christ, we have been brought back into a right relationship with Him. (2 Corinthians 5:18)

Forgiven. God has already forgiven all our past, present, and future sins; it's a "done deal." Ongoing confession and repentance keep us in intimate communion with Him.(1 John 1:7, 9)

Freed from condemnation. The Law was given for us to understand God's standards, our inability to keep them, and our need of a Savior. Jesus fulfilled the law, and His finished work counts on our behalf. We are, then, free to pursue holiness without fear of punishment when we fail. (Romans 8:1 - 2)

True riches are spiritual in nature, and grace has made us wealthy people. For which of these are you most thankful?
