SAVED BY GRACE
Mood:  special
Topic: Ephesians 2:4 - 10

Many people believe that piling up good works makes them right with the Lord. Yet death is the only payment for sin that can satisfy divine justice. (Romans 6:23) Since we all transgress, this leaves us in a desperate situation facing an eternity apart from God.

Grace, the expression of divine love and kindness to the utterly undeserving, prompted the solution. God sent His Son Jesus to die in our place. According to Romans 10:9, all we need to do is believe and accept Jesus into our hearts. Jesus' death satisfied God's justice and brought us:

New Life. Our spirit is made alive in Christ the moment we acknowledge that we are sinners, turn from our rebelliousness, and believe that His death paid for our sin - debt in full.

Freedom. At salvation, sin's power over us is broken, and we are set free from slavery to its hold. Jesus raised us up out of the quagmire of disobedience and gave us the faith to believe. Now we can exercise our newfound freedom and follow Him.

Security. When we accept God's judgment that we are sinners by nature and acknowledge our Savior's sacrifice as payment for our sins, we are permanently adopted into the heavenly Father's family. Our status changes instantly: once objects of wrath, we are now children of God. Someday we will be seated in the heavenly realms with Christ to enjoy life everlasting with Him.

God, the very one against whom we rebelled, substituted His Son Jesus in our place to receive the punishment that was rightfully ours. How will you show your gratitude to God for His saving grace?

A GLIMPSE OF THE FUTURE
Mood:  special

Dear Friend,

This letter is coming to you from the future. I write today from the America your children or grandchildren will be living in just a few short decades from now.

It is my heartbreaking duty to report that things are not good here. You see, marriage as we understand it ceased to exist some time ago. And because marriage served as the underlying foundation for our civilization, things here are much, much less civilized.

America chose to follow Canada and Europe down the path of high divorce rates, low marriage rates and gay marriage. These unavoidably opened the door to legalized polygamy and polyamory (group marriage). Soon the very term marriage had been "expanded" into meaninglessness.

Without the stable structure of the traditional family for bringing up children, we produced several generations of broken, dysfunctional adults. Here in the future, America is neither great nor strong. Living standards have plummeted. Crime is rampant.

I wish I could tell you that the America your children and grandchildren inherited was a good place to live—but it isn't. And the truly tragic part is that it was avoidable.

You see, back in 2006 America stood at a crossroads...a tipping point...

Our Unique Position
Of course, I can't actually travel to the future and write to you from there. But the future I have just described is very real nonetheless. It is surely headed our way unless you and I seize the opportunities God has given us in this hour.

Yes, on one hand Hollywood is doing its part to try to "normalize" homosexual marriage, gay adoption, and "alternative" forms of family composition. For example, you may not have heard much about "polyamory" (group marriage) but, trust me, you will.

HBO has a new celebrated series called Big Love which follows the trials and stresses of a polygamist man with three wives. Conservative social observers like Stanley Kurtz of the Hudson Institute have been warning us for some time that the gay marriage movement was just the tip of the spear.

He has predicted that the same arguments currently being put forth to sell gay marriage will quickly be followed by moves to legitimize polygamy and polyamory.

But at the very same moment in time, God has placed MarriageToday in a unique and powerful position to get the word out. That word is — marriage, done God's way, can not only work, but is our very best hope for happiness, fulfillment and successful children.

God has positioned MarriageToday as the only nationwide television broadcast wholly dedicated to presenting the truth about marriage.

I know in my heart that if we can continue and expand this mission, we can win this battle for marriage in America. We can rewrite that bleak future for our grandchildren!

But this battle won't be won in the voting booth (though, political involvement is indeed important). The tide won't be turned by writing angry letters to our congressmen (but they should certainly hear from you).

No, we can only win as we reach the homes and hearts of average, struggling Americans. And God has positioned MarriageToday to do just that.

God's Answers
For 12 years now, I've been using television to bring you and others powerful, biblical answers. Answers that have rescued marriages in crisis; kept kids' parents together; and helped make good marriages truly great.

They've worked because they are not my answers. They're God's.

But for most of those 12 years, we were only on a few stations and networks. Nevertheless our weekly television program bore remarkable fruit. The letters, calls and emails we received each week proved it.

But the truth is, marriages aren't under attack just one day a week. Or in just a few scattered cities. It's under attack every single day, all across this nation!

That's why, in the face of this national crisis, we recently expanded our reach and frequency in a dramatic way.

At great expense, we have risen up to face this marriage crisis. We are raising up a standard to prevent that dark future for our children I described in the opening of this letter.

The Time is Now!
In this battle, our inspiration, our mission, our rallying cry, has been this scripture:

When the enemy comes in like a flood, The Spirit of the LORD will lift up a standard against him. (Isaiah 59:19)

Truly, there is a flood of demonic forces pouring in against your family, and against countless other families across this nation. But I'm encouraged to report that God is indeed raising up a standard against this onslaught.

And I'm so humbled that God has chosen this ministry to be key a part of that upraised standard.

But Karen and I can't do it without you.

Be a Part of Rewriting Future History
It's our families and friends who are under attack. It's our neighbors and coworkers. Our fellow Americans. We have to reach these people. And we will.

When I say "we," I mean "you and me." Karen and I need you to help us help you, and hundreds of thousands of others, win this battle.

Specifically, I need your help in bringing MarriageToday with Jimmy & Karen to the widest possible audience before it's too late. Here in the middle of the most critical year for marriage in our nation's history, Karen and I need you to make the most generous gift you possibly can.

Together, we will be a part of something that has the potential to impact this nation in extraordinary ways.

As I've said, Karen and I cannot do this alone. But together, we can keep this country from sliding down a slippery slope into chaos and despair. But only if we act now.

I need you to make an extraordinary, sacrificial gift to this cause. It will be a sacrifice in the service of future generations and to the countless couples who will receive help and hope right now — because you gave.

Sincerely,

Jimmy Evans

LETTING GOD ENFORCE THE TRUTH
Mood:  amorous

One of the most important issues in marriage is being able to be honest and say how we feel.  Honesty is an essential element of intimacy.  Honesty also means we are dealing with issues as they arise so anger isn't building under the surface.  Being honest and giving our spouse the ability to be honest without fear of paying a price for that honesty is crucial.

That being said the question then becomes -- what happens when you are honest and your spouse doesn't agree with something you've said?  For example, let's say you are bothered by your spouse's spending habits and tell them so.  In response, he or she says you're wrong and it's your problem.

You see, even though you are honest, it doesn't mean you're not going to have any problems or are going to like the honesty.  In fact, it always means you're going to have to deal with some unpleasant truth.  Dealing with these types of things properly is important in keeping your relationship healthy and the lines of communication open.

When you express how you feel and your spouse doesn't agree or doesn't respond in a positive manner the worst thing you can do is try to enforce your opinion.  Let's go back to our example.  Let's say you tell your spouse you don't agree with their spending habits and they don't agree with you.  The wrong thing to do is to verbally assault them, call them names, withdraw or punish them until they agree with you and change.

If you try to enforce your opinions that is control.  It will always result in your spouse resenting you and withdrawing emotionally.  He or she will also learn it is not safe to be honest with you.

For honesty to occur in a safe environment, we need to be able to share how we feel without being punished, shamed or browbeaten. Once we've shared and haven't agreed, then the thing we must do is take the issues to God in prayer.  Only God can change hearts and help us understand things on a higher level.

When we pray, we are asking God to change our spouse or to show us our problems.  Either way, no damage will be done to the open and loving spirit of our relationship.  Also, we are inviting God into our marriage to be the glue that holds us together.

Without trusting in God, marriage will inevitably become a battle of wills. You won't be able to have a loving and honest relationship because control and manipulation will prevent it from happening.

All of us need honest relationships.  It is crucial. However, that honesty must be combined with a trust in God and a commitment to let Him be the enforcer of truth.

Blessings,

Jimmy Evans

AGAPE LOVE
Mood:  amorous

There is an odd truth concerning love and marriage. Understanding it is an important key in making marriage and other relationships work.  The truth is this -- we don't have the ability to really love without the power of the Holy Spirit working through us.

In Galatians 5:22-23, the Apostle Paul tells us the fruit of the Spirit is, "love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control...".  According to this scripture, we don't have the capacity to love without God giving us that ability as we surrender to Him.

So how are people able to "love" when they don't know God?  They can't. At least they are not able to love with God's type of love.  God's love is a special love the Bible calls "agape".   It is a love that flows out of the will and does not change.  It is the most stable and predictable kind of love and the only type that can provide a lasting foundation in marriage.

Often, when people say they love someone, they are just talking about sexual desire (the Greek word "eros" where we get the word erotic) or a passionate feeling ("thumos" where we get our thermos).  These kinds of feelings come and go. When they go for very long, many people give the old line "I don't love you anymore" and are out the door.

Agape love, however, is a committed and sacrificial love that is modeled after Jesus.  When Jesus tells us He loves us, He isn't talking about a feeling that comes and goes.  He is telling us He is committed to us forever and will not change.  Whether His feelings for us are positive or negative, it doesn't change His commitment to us.

We really need to consider what we mean when we tell our spouse, "I love you".  Are we saying that we are experiencing a fleeting feeling or are we saying we are committed to him or her forever and will demonstrate love regardless of bad feelings or negative circumstances?  It isn't wrong to express a feeling, as long as when that feeling isn't there any more, you can still say "I love you," and do the right thing regardless of the situation.

People controlled by their emotions are unreliable, and their moodiness can do a lot of damage to relationships. The most stable and dependable people in relationships are those who are submitted to the influence of the Holy Spirit They are powered by a supernatural love that will do the right thing through thick and thin.

Ask God to fill you with the power of His Holy Spirit.  He never intends for us to go around trying to love people out of the shallow well of our own emotions.  The ocean of His love is always available to any of us who would just admit our weaknesses and depend upon Him.  His agape love is the highest love and will transform any person, relationship or marriage under its influence.

Blessings,

Jimmy Evans

WISDOM vs KNOWLEDGE
Mood:  amorous
Topic: Proverbs 3:13-26
“From the Book of Proverbs, the 3rd chapter, Solomon discusses the benefits of wisdom. The difference between wisdom and knowledge is this; knowledge is knowing a fact. Wisdom is what to do with the facts.”

“Happy is the man who finds wisdom, And the man who gains understanding; For her proceeds are better than the profits of silver, and her gain better than fine gold. She is more precious than rubies, and all the things you may desire cannot compare with her. Length of days is in her right hand, In her left hand riches and honor. Her ways are ways of pleasantness, And all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her. And happy are all who retain her.

The Lord by wisdom founded the earth; By understanding He established the heavens; In His knowledge the depths were broken up, And clouds drop down the dew. My son, let them not depart from your eyes- Keep sound wisdom and discretion;

So they will be life to your soul and grace to your neck. Then you will walk safely in your way, And your foot will not stumble. When you lie down, you will not be afraid; Yes, you will lie down and your sleep will be sweet. Do not be afraid of sudden terror, Nor of the trouble that comes from the wicked when it comes; For the Lord will be your confidence, And will keep your foot from being caught.”

May the Lord add His blessing to the reading of the word.

JUDGING THE IMPACT OF SERVICE
Mood:  lazy
Topic: 1 Corinthians 3:12 - 15
Faithful servants will receive their complete reward following Jesus' return and the resurrection of the righteous. Although we might taste heaven before that day, the full impact of our life cannot be measured until Christ's judgment. For instance, consider the example of Oswald Chambers. This preacher is still having a powerful ripple effect on the world almost 80 years after his death: his words in My Utmost for His Highest have affected me, my writings may have impacted you, your witness will reach someone else, and so on. Only God can measure the actual extent of an individual's influence.

Christ will not judge believers by their sin - it has been forgotten. (Jeremiah 31:34) Instead, He will ask His children for an account "according to what [each] has done, whether good or bad" (2 Corinthians 5:10). We won't be judged on how well our conduct matched our understanding of good and bad; instead, our actions will be assessed on the basis of whether they count for God or for personal gain. We may be quite surprised at the many actions we carried out as a natural extension of our love and desire for a godly life but which Jesus will credit as service to Him. Likewise, the deeds we performed for the applause of men will burn up like hay and stubble in a fire. (1 Corinthians 3:10 - 15)

The life we live now determines much about our eternal future. Our capacity to reflect God's glory into eternity is either expanding or diminishing by our works. Therefore, we do well to serve wholeheartedly, anticipating the day we will give our account.

SERVANTHOOD: REWARDS FOR TODAY
Mood:  amorous
Topic: Hebrews 6:9 - 12
God rewards His children for every act of service done with selfless motivation. Even a small deed like helping to pick up dropped papers doesn't escape His notice. Throughout the Bible, we find promises that the Lord repays right actions."Whatever good thing each one does, this he will receive back from the Lord," Paul assures us in his letter to the Ephesians. 6:8. Also, in Revelation 22:12, Jesus speaks through John, saying, "Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to render to every man according to what he has done."

If rewards were bestowed only after we reached heaven, then believers who live to a ripe old age would have to wait a long time to see these benefits of their service. Thankfully, though, God sprinkles blessings all throughout His children's lives. For instance, we enjoy fellowship not only with those serving alongside us but also with those for whom we labor. Perhaps the greatest gift for faithful service is joy, which can be experienced in so many contexts: joy can come from leading someone to the Savior, from the special knowledge that our works contribute to spiritual growth, or from making eternally valuable choices.

God's promise comes with a warning: Only service done for the Lord will endure. The work we do to gain attention for ourselves may earn us the notice and praise of men, but that reward is neither filling nor lasting in value.(Matthew 6:1, 5,16) Think about your genuine motivations for being a servant. Let your love for mankind and devotion to God propel you to serve Him.

WORKING AS TO THE LORD
Mood:  amorous
Topic: Ephesians 5:6
When we hear the word service used in a Christian context, it can be somewhat vague. Does "service to God" mean preaching? . . . teaching Sunday School? . . . praying for other believers? Yes, yes, and yes, but ministry is not limited to church - related activities. In fact, whenever divine resources meet human needs through a loving channel, ministry has taken place. "Serving the Lord" can mean a boy helping an elderly lady carry her grocery bags. It can also describe a woman taking a hurting friend out for ice cream. We are even to regard our vocational tasks as work done directly for the Lord. (Colossians 3:22 - 24) Therefore, "Christian service" can likewise refer to a truck driver hauling produce.

All service is rendered to God, no matter who the recipient is. Paul used the example of slaves and masters - employees and bosses would be the modern equivalent - to describe how Christians should labor. Obedience and reverence mark the life of a believing worker. It is possible to do whatever is asked, follow all the rules, and keep smiling, but still lack a crucial element of a servant: sincerity of heart. It's all too easy to put on a good show to impress the boss but then complain about him later. The greater challenge is to please God by committing to work well when no one is looking or applauding. That's what it means to serve wholeheartedly for the Lord.

Everything we do that touches other lives either glorifies the Lord or diminishes His name in front of a watching world. What does your commitment to work tell others about Jesus Christ?

SERVICE WITH STRENGTH
Mood:  amorous
Topic: Colossians 1:10 - 12

Ministry isn't something we do, but rather, it is something God does through us. So much fatigue and failure could be avoided if believers remembered that He is the source of strength. We serve Him using Spirit - provided resources. "Faithful is He who calls you, and He also will bring it to pass," promises the Word. (1 Thessalonians 5:24) This means that the Lord assumes responsibility for enabling His children to carry out whatever work He calls them to do. The Savior exemplifies this principle - He also did His earthly work through divine power. Upon His return from the wilderness, Jesus was filled with the Holy Spirit, and He came preaching a Gospel of repentance. Here is what He said of Himself: "Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own initiative, but the Father abiding in Me does His works" (John 14:10).

As co - heirs with Christ, believers are entitled to access that same spiritual strength. What a comfort to know that a divinely ordained ministry is not in our hands alone! Some other person may be able to do the work better or offer wider experience, but God does not look for servants who are gifted. He instead seeks out those willing to live in His strength. If we have done all we can through the power of the Holy Spirit, then we never have to wonder if we have done enough. Are you discouraged? Tired? Ready to give up? God is ready to restore you to joyful service if you will simply ask Him to do His work through you.

SERVANTHOOD: A CALL TO GROWTH
Mood:  special
Topic: Ephesians 4:11 - 16
Kids love to show off their height. They eagerly anticipate being tall enough to do all the things that their short stature currently prevents. Many parents record and celebrate their children's growth, following the old tradition of marking heights on a doorframe.

God the Father also measures His children's growth - He delights in seeing us reach new levels of spiritual maturity so that we can accept greater responsibility.

Because a new believer is like a little child in faith, his or her kingdom tasks are, at first, light. God is beginning the transformation process that will grow a saved human being into the image of Christ. The call to servanthood requires us to do as the Lord Jesus did: act humbly on behalf of our fellow man. When we successfully minister where we are called, new opportunities will open up and offer fresh challenges.

Spiritual growth impacts our fruitfulness; the longer we've been believers, the greater our service should be. That does not mean tasks will be highly visible. Satan tries to convince people that some jobs are trivial, but the moment a believer falls for that lie, growth is stunted. God will promote those who put forth the best effort, no matter what the task is.

Every opportunity to bless others honors the Lord and increases a believer's wisdom and stature before Him. Much of God's work goes on where only He can see it. But He is always measuring His children for future service, gauging how much closer we are to His goal for us and what new task will draw us closer still.

GOD DESIRES YOUR SUCCESS
Mood:  special
Topic: 1 Samuel 15:22
God wants you to be successful. This does not mean He has an automatic plan for you to become rich or famous, although either of these may be included in His ultimate design for your life.

God's idea of success begins at the Cross where Jesus died. Success is not measured by what you do in life or what you gain financially. Your love and devotion to Jesus Christ measure your success.

In 1 Samuel 15, we read how Saul decided he would offer a sacrifice that only God's anointed priest was commissioned to offer. Since Samuel was not present, Saul felt justified in his actions and made the sacrifice himself.

This one act of disobedience cost Saul the kingdom. Here is a lesson we need to learn if we are going to be successful. God anoints certain people to do certain things. He has placed leaders in our lives for a reason. If we want to lead, we must first learn to follow.

If you fail to submit to your God - given authority, then success from God's perspective will be difficult to achieve.

A successful person has learned HUMILITY to the point that he no longer thinks about whether he has gained it or not.

We are called to do the will of God, but this only can be done at the feet of Christ.

THE CALL TO SERVANTHOOD
Mood:  lazy
Topic: Galatians 5:13
Three New Testament writers opened their epistles in a similar way: "Paul, a bondservant of Christ Jesus..." (Romans 1:1), "Simon Peter, a bond-servant and apostle of Jesus Christ..." (2 Peter 1:1), and "James, a bond-servant of God and the Lord Jesus Christ..." (James 1:1). These men whom we call great for their unfailing commitment to the Gospel viewed themselves as humble workers.

God calls each believer to a life of service, just as He called these men. This should be an exciting prospect, but too many people get hung up on the belief that they cannot be "as good" as the apostles of old or the preachers and missionaries of today. A popular idea in the church is that the Lord's servants are those doing full - time ministry but that everyone else is simply trying to live well. Nothing could be further from the truth. From God's perspective, you and I are the same as Paul, Peter, and James: servants with important kingdom work to do.

Some kingdom jobs look more important than others, but that's only because we evaluate with human eyes. Every work that advances the Gospel or serves a need is valuable, from cleaning the church or preaching to evangelizing or recording a praise album.

Not every person can be on a foreign mission field, but we all can share the Gospel with a neighbor. Some people can sing in the choir; others can put a dollar in the hand of homeless man. God invites us to do His work in the world, whether the task is great or small - and we do it by serving our fellow man. What is He calling you to do?

A PATTERN FOR SERVANTHOOD
Mood:  energetic
Topic: John 13:1 - 17
In Matthew 20:26, Jesus gave His disciples a revolutionary message: "Whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant." In ancient days the lowest servant of the household washed dusty feet. Kneeling to clean away dirt from a guest's toes was not something the master of the home wanted to do. So the disciples must have been surprised when Jesus performed this humble task for them. He explained His shocking behavior by saying, "If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet" (John 13:14).

Based on those words, many churches have turned foot washing into an ordinance; they believe that this act shows Christlikeness and demonstrates willingness to "serve." Perhaps that is true for some believers, but many perform the ceremony by rote. Jesus' message to the disciples and to modern believers is not literally to wash dirty feet, but rather to serve one another with humility and love.

True servanthood is not a popular topic because, in all honesty, most Christians prefer having things done for them. But God seeks the kind of men and women who offer themselves as living sacrifices. To serve the Lord well, we must be willing do whatever He asks for whomever He wishes. Our Christlikeness is evident when we love God and others so much that we willingly humble ourselves for their sake.

Jesus performed one of the lowliest tasks of His day to demonstrate His servanthood. What are you willing to do for Him?

JESUS - A SERVANT
Mood:  chatty
Topic: Matthew 20:20 - 28
Believers like to talk about Jesus as Lord, as Master, and especially as Savior, but rarely is He mentioned as "Jesus the Servant." Yet describing His own mission, Christ said, "The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many" (v. 28). He entered the world to offer Himself for the Father's purpose and mankind's need.

The Cross was the ultimate sacrifice for others. Every human is born into slavery, a captive of sin. Jesus' death paid the ransom, purchasing our freedom with His blood. Consider what that means: Jesus voluntarily exchanged His glory for flesh because only as a human could He experience sin - He didn't break God's laws, but He allowed His purity to be violated by our transgressions. In fact, God made Jesus "who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf" so that we could gain freedom from our captivity. (2 Corinthians 5:21)

Jesus took on Himself every bit of sin - past, present, and future - committed by humanity. Our sinless Savior suddenly and painfully felt the burden of guilt, the weight of a tarnished soul, and a wretched separation from His Father. He suffered the injustice of dying for our sin in order that God's holiness and our imperfection could be reconciled. Jesus was the Father's servant, agreeing to an atonement plan that made Him a sacrifice.

Jesus is your servant as well. He humbly endured the punishment you deserved. To receive the benefit of His sacrifice, you need only ask His forgiveness and receive Him into your life. Then you, too, can know the servant, Jesus, as Savior and Lord!

THE REQUIREMENTS OF WAITING
Mood:  hug me
Topic: Psalm 27
Waiting on the Lord sounds easy. After all, we only have to pray and listen for His answer, right?

The truth is that believers who desperately want to see a need met often find the process nearly unbearable. The next time God tells you to wait, remember these four requirements for keeping a steady vigil until He says, "Now go forward."

Believers must have faith, trusting in God even without knowing when or how He will resolve a situation. And faith cannot function without humility. We must submit to the Lord with the recognition that there is nothing we can do except pause until further instructions come. Believers are far safer in this voluntarily helpless condition than in trying to figure out their own solution. As soon as we begin to manipulate our circumstances - which is a demonstration of prideful reliance on self -  we subvert the Master's plan.

The moment we realize that we could save ourselves pain or stress through some action that is not of God, we need patience, which is not an inborn trait. It is a decision to remain calm and quiet in a difficult situation.

We will never make the choice to exercise patience unless we have courage. Friends and colleagues will freely offer advice about our situation. We must bravely wait when others say it is time to move. Fear of criticism is often the catalyst for believers to get out of God's will.

Praying when we would rather be doing is hard. But we must be ready to hold steady faithfully, humbly, patiently, and courageously when God says, "Wait."

THE REWARDS FOR WAITING
Mood:  chatty
Topic: Isaiah 40:29 - 31
A believer can spend months asking God for release from a stressful situation. Or parents might pray for many years that their child will place faith in Christ. Waiting to see tangible evidence of divine action can be frustrating, but timing is important in the Christian life because God is orchestrating events to work for His children's good. In the meantime, He rewards those who remain constant in their vigil.

When the Lord calls a "time out," we often find our patience and stamina tried - waiting is never easy! But any task is less burdensome if it is done in cadence with someone else. And that is how our whole life should be lived: in step with the Lord. If we run ahead of Him, we will miss out on developing spiritual endurance. Though God's Spirit remains with us, He will not provide strength for us to live outside His will.

Periods of waiting are very often times of fear, stress, or grief, which will weary us quickly unless we are depending on an eternal energy source. Those feelings may intensify our desire to push forward, but the Lord has promised protection and provision for our times of waiting. If we turn to Him in our hour of need, He will give us the tools to triumph. (Psalm 37:34, 39 - 40)

Eventually, when our prayer has been answered, our trial's end may seem like the only reward. But a second look will reveal that our trust has been strengthened and our patience lengthened. That is to say, the Lord blesses our waiting with a more mature faith.

PRAYER TO ...SEEK GOD
Mood:  lazy
"Seek the LORD, and his strength: seek his face evermore." Psalm 105:4

~Father God,

I can get so preoccupied with my own urgencies and with seeking solutions and remedies from Your hand. My daily needs can sometimes overwhelm me. Help me to change my focus. Help me to seek Your face and to look to You for strength to walk where I need to walk. Help me to seek to know You better.

Give me a thankful heart for the blessings I have received from Your hand. Give me a heart filled with praise for what I see in Your face; Your trustworthiness, Your peace, Your joy, Your strength, Your grace and Your loving kindness.

Teach me to look to Your face first, to always seek You... before I simply seek things from You.

Thank you for Your loving patience with me.

I ask this in Jesus' strong name, Amen.

Mood:  amorous
"The Lord will guide you always; He will satisfy your needs in a sun - scorched land and will strengthen your frame..." Isaiah 58:11

~Father God,

Thank you that You have promised the Lord will guide me always, not just when I am up and on track, but always.  Today I lean hard on that and ask You to continue to show me the way to walk.  God, sometimes I feel like a sun- scorched land...yet You promise to meet my needs even there.  Today I acknowledge I need You.  I am parched and I look to You to give me physical stamina, spiritual insight and emotional strength.  You even promise to strengthen my frame.  Thank you Father that Your tender care encompasses all of me.  Help me to draw on that today and to praise You for it!

In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen

PRAYER TO ...PUT ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Mood:  bright
Topic: Ephesians 6:10 - 18
Paul uses the symbolism of the Christian as a Soldier who engages daily in the battle with evil.  The armor of the Soldier is given as the protection in battle.

As Christians, we need to remember that we can have this protection daily as we face the various challenges of our lives.  Each morning you can pray through the symbolic pieces of armor and invite the specific help of the Holy Spirit, who the Lord said He would send to be your help and your comforter and your strength.

"Put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything to stand...

"Stand firm then with the Belt of Truth buckled around your waist,
(Lord, please give me understanding of what is true and right in every situation I walk into today)

"With the Breastplate of Righteousness in place, (Lord, I thank You that I am loved by you and that you have washed my sin away and covered my doubt)

"and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the Gospel of Peace. (Lord, remind me today to be open to what You want me to do, use my hands and feet and show me people you would have me do something for today)

"In addition to all this, take up the Shield of Faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. (Lord, I thank you that by faith in Your power I can be protected from temptation and wrong desires today.  Guide me and protect me.  Keep me from temptation and increase my faith in You)

"Take up the Helmet of Salvation (Lord, I celebrate the fact that I am Your child!)

"and the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. (Lord, give me the desire to read your Word.  Help me not to just read it but to obey it as well.)

"And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. (Lord, guide my day and gently remind me to bring my problems of the day to You as they arise)

"With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints." (Lord, keep me alert and focused on You today for You are my hope!)
